Did you know, at Anthony Kanutin Osteopaths we are approaching our 40th year of practice?

 

In June 2023 Anthony  trained 25 Osteopaths abroad in clinical competence. This enables them to examine final year Osteopathy students to check and ensure students are safe to practice. 

 

Gardening tips

As summer (hopefully!!) arrives, here are some helpful tips to avoid hurting yourself.

1] WARM UP. Do some gentle stretches. These should Include your lower back as well as your neck and shoulders. 

2] PACE YOUSELF. People usually try to get a job done e.g. “the weeding”. It is more sensible to do SOME weeding e.g. 15 minutes, then some pruning etc. Avoiding being in a bent position for a prolonged period of time will reduce the risk of strain.

3] AVOID REPETITIVE STRAIN. If you do masses of cutting or pruning with secateurs you run the risk of straining your thumb or forearm/elbow. Again, pace yourself especially the first time you do something.

4] HOLD OBJECTS CLOSE TO YOURSELF. If you have to lift heavy objects, it is less of a strain if you hold them close to your body. Better to have a dirty shirt than spend time in pain.

5] DRINK FLUIDS if you are spending a prolonged time in the garden, avoid dehydration by drinking sufficient amounts.

 

We have clinics daily. Please remember you do not have to be in terrible trouble to seek help. Some timely treatment may very well prevent a more serious problem developing.

Holiday tips

1] Be aware of pillow heights. If too low, a folded towel(s) can be used to raise the height.

2] When lying on a sun bed, be aware that your neck may be unsupported. Again, use towels to ensure you avoid strain.

3] On long haul flights. Do get up and do stretches to avoid stiffening up.

4] Take care when removing suitcases from the carousel. If access to it is blocked, wait for it to come around again and prepare to lift it correctly rather than strain awkwardly and ruin your holiday.

5] If the bed is uncomfortable for you, do ask whether other rooms have different style beds.
