Effective treatment begins with an effective diagnosis

At Anthony Kanutin Osteopaths, we will want to know how your symptoms began and factors that affect them. Please bring a list of any medications you take. After a full case history is taken, we assess you in several ways:

Standing postural examination (and sitting if required)
Active movement observations
Passive/palpation examination (i.e. feeling movement of relevant joints and the state of muscles etc.) to determine any differences from normal
Special tests. This will be determined by what you present with e.g. we may need to perform tests for nerve damage, knee cartilage damage, interference with blood flow etc

As an example, regarding posture, it may be that we need to check your leg lengths if you have headaches, as a difference in leg length can cause a spinal curvature (scoliosis) further causing neck muscle tension. This may bring on the headache. Thereby tackling the neck muscles alone will not stop the problem from recurring.

In the vast majority of cases, we will start treatment (having obtained your consent) immediately. On occasions, it may be necessary to seek further tests or investigations. These could include MRI scans, blood tests, X rays etc. We work closely with a range of providers of these services.

We are trained in a range of approaches and understand the need to be very gentle in many circumstances (e.g. patients with osteoporosis) or firmer when the need arises. We will always note your preference for the type of treatment you wish to receive.
